Great British Energy (GBE) has set out its plan for the next five years to accelerate the UK’s shift to renewable power.
The organisation aims to deliver at least 15 GW of clean energy generation and storage assets – enough to power the equivalent of almost 10 million homes.
Some £15 billion of private finance will be mobilised over time and support to over 1,000 local and community energy projects, expanding public participation and local control in the energy system
GBE will operate as a developer and equity investor, giving the public a lasting stake in the full lifecycle of clean energy infrastructure. The returns generated from publicly owned assets will be reinvested into new capacity, new jobs and new opportunities across the UK.
Great British Energy’s CEO, Dan McGrail, said: “We are proud to be putting public ownership to work, unlocking investment, powering communities, creating jobs, and building an energy system that delivers for the UK.”
